“Iceberg” Housing Complex In Aarhus, Denmark
A new housing complex, designed by JDS Architects + CEBRA in collaboration with Louis Paillard and SeArch, debuts its construction in Aarhus, Denmark. The 25,000 square meters complex will be completed in the Q2 of 2010.
The “Iceberg” complex will have 200 apartments and a variety of shops, cultural and social activities along with ample workplaces.
Mad Architect reports that the project is called “Iceberg” and will provide cultural and social activities and workplaces.
The designers had a real problem in creating buildings with good ocean views and best lighting conditions because the site of the complex has specific height restrictions. The architects managed to finish their design and the Iceberg looks great and respects all restrictions. Aarhus is the second largest city in Denmark and this is a opportunity to replace he old with the future and sustainable.
According to Dezeen, the Iceberg Project seeks to locate itself within the goals of the overall city development.
The Iceberg negotiates this problematic, by remaining far below the maximum heights at points and emerging above the dotted line at other moments. “Peaks” and “canyons” form; eliciting the project’s iconic strength while ensuring that all flats will be supplied with a generous amount of natural lighting and waterfront views.
Kent Martinussen, the administrative director of DAC (Danish Architecture Centre), is quoted commenting on the importance of the Iceberg project.
“With the Iceberg we get unique housing qualities as well as a city architectural expression of the highest quality,” Martinussen said.
